BIRD'S NEST SOUP

The story: for the last 1,200 years, the brid's nest soup has been at the top of the prized food items in China and Southeast Asia. While the emperors, rules and those high in rank in Europe were spoiled with lavish buffets of foie gras, ham, fine cheeses and wine, the rulers in China cultivated a more "unconventional" taste: swiflet's saliva.

The swiflet is a tiny bird, mostly found in Asia, that builds its home out of tiny strands of gummy saliva, which becomes solid when in contact with air.

The nest is then steamed in chicken broth, with rick sugar and ginseng and served warm.

It is believed that the bird's nest has strong medicinal powers, works as an immune system booster and works as an aphrodisiac ( :) ).

The main ingredients: saliva, plus chicken broth and sugar.
