BISCUITS & GRAVY
The story: all happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast, the saying goes. If eggs Benedict or bircher muesli are your go-to items for the first meal of the day, some people in Virginia have something else on their plate at the crack of dawn: biscuits and gravy. Also known as "death on a plate".
Soft dough biscuits met pork sausage gravy after the American War of Independence, when a "cheap and cheerful" meal was something sought after. A brilliant mind though that biscuits and pork (which became available in Virginia arond 1,600) would pair well and create a filling breakfast for labourers working the fields.
The description of "death on a plate" is not far from the truth, just think of the main ingredients...
The main ingredients: soft dough biscuits, pork sausage and a funky concoction made out of the grease of the cooked sausage, flour, milk and water. Strongly recommended to those on a diet :)
